Should I choose Save or Open?

For exported data and Excel reports, your browser will normally ask whether you want to Open the file or Save it.  Although the Open option may seem quick and convenient, we recommend that you choose Save instead.

If you choose to Open the file, the browser downloads it to a temporary directory on your computer and then opens it. Unless you specifically then do a Save As from Excel it will be difficult to find the file if you need to refer back to it.  Even if you do Save As, you now have two copies of the file on your computer.

If you choose Save then you can tell the browser exactly where you want it saved, and you can give it a meaningful name.  Once it downloads it's easy to open the downloaded file, and you'll know exactly where to find it next time you want to look at it.
